During the winter of 2023-2024, student artists/illustrators from ICU High School and NSG, a secondary school in Nijmegen, Netherlands, had an online cultural exchange program themed on art. Directed by Anita Waltman, artist, and founder of the Big Draw Nederland, the students met online six times, including two drawing workshops by professional manga artists Renee Rienties (Netherlands) and Ryo Katagiri (Japan).

The students from two schools, paired or grouped, took pictures of the topic of their choice (e.g., food, architecture, flowers) in their respective countries, swapped the pictures across borders, and drew on them. The exhibition at ICU HS presents their final pieces of art from two sides with captions written by the student artists themselves. The same exhibition will also be held in the Netherlands at NSG and the International Drawing Center in Nijmegen, opening in April 2024.

2023年度の冬、オランダ東部のナイメーヘン市の中等学校NSGとICU高校の生徒が、アートをテーマにしたオンライン国際交流プログラムに参加しました。Big Draw Nederlandの主催者で自身もアーティストとして活動しているAnita Waltman氏によるこのプログラムでは、生徒たちが6回にわたりオンラインで交流し、両国の漫画家、片桐了氏とRenee Rienties氏による漫画・イラストの描き方ワークショップも行われました。参加した生徒たちはペアまたは3人組になり、グループごとに決めたトピック（例えば、食べ物、建築、花など）の写真をそれぞれの国で撮り、国境を越えて写真を交換し、その写真の上に絵を描きました。日本の風景に入り込んだオランダの伝統衣装を着た人物の絵、オランダ料理を囲むパーティの絵など楽しい作品ができました。

高校では、両国の生徒たちの作品を彼らが書いたキャプション付きで展示中です（参加者が展示作業も行いました）。

オランダでも、NSGで展示が行われているほか、2024年4月にオープンするナイメーヘンのInternational Drawing Centerでも作品が展示される予定です。ナイメーヘンにお住まいの方（もしいたら）ぜひ、足を運んでください！
